We don't know who needs to hear this, but Apex Legends' Crypto isn't Respawn Entertainment's most popular battle royale character. If there was any doubt that Apex Legends is one of the best competitive FPS games around, this should definitely clear it all up. Although not mentioned in the latest Apex Legends patch notes, the cryptocurrency has seen a 14.6% increase in usage over the past few days and is now less popular in Newcastle, which reports a 1.2% decrease in usage according to Apex Legends Stats%.
If you're sitting there wondering where this extraordinary surge in cryptocurrency popularity is coming from, it's hard to say given the lack of technological change. However, Catalyst can be the catalyst for this.
We know Gibraltar and Newcastle Catalysts are kryptonite in Apex Legends, but their max rates have been dropping for a while now. Combine that with the fact that Catalyst is a "must-have" when it comes to countering scans, and its popularity may hamper the effectiveness of cryptos in battle royale right now.
However, that still doesn't make sense - if you think about it. Respawn Entertainment hasn't made any updates to the crypto suite as a whole. But we didn't let that affect its place in our Apex Legends rankings. He's really a situational choice, which doesn't make him particularly bad, but it does make him unlikable.
However, as you can see below, it seems that the cryptocurrency's rise above Newcastle is inevitable. It has increased in recent days – and Newcastle is in steady decline. What's more, there was a period in the second half of Season 13 when he was more popular than Newcastle - which is unfortunate considering it was only weeks after the defensive legend's exit.
Is this the start of a cryptocurrency renaissance in Apex Legends? Will this upward trend continue? Well, we won't go that far - but it's one of the best battle royale games for a reason. Hopefully, this will convince Respawn Entertainment to review the Crypto set before the next big update. This legend is still alive.
